CONDITION: LDL (Oxidized) TOO HIGH
The amount of LDL which is oxidized is more important in prediciting heart disease than are total LDL levels. Studies have shown oxidized LDL is more implicated in arterial plaque formation and unstable plaque. The higher the levels of oxidized LDL, the more plaque you will have. A safe level is less than 60 u/L. Also look at the ratio of Oxidized LDL to HDL and ideally should be less than 30. Ask your Dr to order a test for oxidized LDL before agreeing to any statin use.
